Daniel Kelly

Daniel Kelly

Daniel Kelly is of Wathaurong heritage and is a prolific local Aboriginal artist. Dan’s work focuses on reconnecting with culture and expresses his passion for Aboriginal issues, family, environment and politics. Dan enjoys creating ochre stencil works on paper and woodcarving.

“I only started with my art in the last few years. I find art has really helped me reconnect with my culture and express things that are important to me. I am very passionate about Aboriginal issues, country, family, country, family, environment and politics. The work I produce really reflects this. I grew up thinking I couldn’t be an artist. I enjoy woodcarving, limestone carving and making natural jewellery particularly with local materials.
I really found my confidence in a new medium when I attended a Baluk Arts ochre stencil workshop and worked closely with Andy Mac and Regin Taunmai (aka HaHa). I am currently focusing on ochre stencil and woodcarving and can create it for hours on end.”
