Lisa Waup

Lisa Waup

Lisa Waup is an award winning artist and is a descendant from the Gunditjmara and Torres Strait Islander peoples as well as having Italian heritage. She has received a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from RMIT University where she developed her love of printmaking and photography. She is currently studying a Masters of Contemporary Art at the University of Melbourne.
Lisa developed an affinity with Melanesian culture through her experience of living and teaching at the University of Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby and Lae, and having raised a family there. Lisa’s work tends to manifest in many layers or pieces that symbolise layers of history and story, and her stitching symbolises reattaching of fragments connecting her to family, Country, history and story.
Lisa mainly works with paper, three dimensional works, jewellery, and found objects from nature and has developed a distinctive weaving practice.
Lisa is also an accomplished curator and has been Programs Coordinator at Baluk Arts since 2012.
